Meeting public-private partnership platform "St. Petersburg Initiative" was held November 22, 2016 in the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources, chaired by N. Inamov and was devoted to waste management.

The focus of the meeting will be on the problems of waste management, particularly, in the North-East federal region.

Focus of the meeting will be on environmental problems of the North-East region. Meeting agenda will include speeches of representatives of federal executive bodies and regional authorities, foreign and national public and private institutions, business, science and civil society.

First in 2015 plenary session of the St. Petersburg initiative, continued a series of events dedicated to environmental issues in the Baltic region. At the same time, Spbi as an international platform for public-private partnership goes beyond purely regional associations, expanding its geographic reach and engage new regions. The event reaffirmed its international status, gathering together representatives of the Baltic region, as well as participants from Kaliningrad, Novgorod regions, Moscow and St. Petersburg.
The next meeting of the Saint-Petersburg Initiative will be held on March 24-25 at the Ministry of Nature
The upcoming meeting will focus on the environmental problems of the urban areas with an accent on "smart cities" concept., and on environmental education and outreach. In advance of the meeting, on March, 24 (from 10:00 to 14:00) with the support of the Royal Danish Consulate in St. Petersburg will be conducted the Russian-Danish seminar which will address the issues of the development of best available environmental technologies.

In accordance with the decisions of the Forum of the Baltic Sea (April 5-6, 2013, St. Petersburg), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of Russia will hold the next plenary session of the «St. Petersburg Initiative» (hereinafter SPBI) with the participation of the Steering Committee, the Council Secretariat and partners. The meeting will be held on 23-24 October in the premises of St. Petersburg water utility «information and education center» at St. Petersburg, street Shpalernaya, 56.
Representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia took part in the international «Gulf - a water area of cooperation»
During the meeting, participants noted that shall make all possible efforts to improve the environmental situation in the region of the Gulf of Finland. The main tasks for this purpose are: modernization of treatment facilities and the termination of the discharge of untreated sewage into the water bodies in the catchment area of the Gulf of Finland; gradual reduction of income of harmful substances into the marine environment; monitoring of the marine environment with the use of new technologies, installation of special equipment on board ships; marine spatial planning; combating oil spills; the creation of protected areas in the waters of the Gulf of Finland.

Results of an International Conference on Green Shipping

Plenary meeting. March 2014
The next plenary meeting featuring members of the Steering Committee and the Board of partners of the Initiative will convene on March, 11, 2014. The meeting will address the issues of implementation of the project approved at the November, 2013 Moscow meeting, main priorities for 2014 and follow up cooperation development in frames of the Initiative, including preparations for an International green shipping conference (April, 2014, Moscow). Besides, at the close of the official part a site visit to the SUE “Vodokanal of St. Petersburg” objects is planned.

Sergey Donskoy, the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources of Russia, made an official visit to Finland on August 11–13, 2013
During his visit, on August 11 in Helsinki, Mr. Donskoy held a meeting with the Finnish delegation on questions of cooperation in the Baltic Region, including cooperation within the framework of HELCOM and the joint Russian-Finnish-Estonian project – Gulf of Finland Year 2014, the construction of sewage plants in Karelia (Ladoga - Neva), Leningrad and Kaliningrad Oblasts.

The first day of Baltic Sea Forum in St. Petersburg made it clear that ecological state of the Baltic Sea ranks high in the political agenda of participating countries. High ecological standards are seen as smart economics.
